Fitness for Real Life: Movement That Fits Your Schedule 💪🏾🏋🏾‍♀️

The Truth About Short Workouts

August is National Wellness Month, a time dedicated to focusing on self-care, stress management, and cultivating healthy routines to enhance both physical and emotional well-being. At BHE Foundation, we’re on a mission to spread health literacy, break down barriers, and advocate for better health practices within the community. This month, let’s celebrate wellness by sharing tips for improving your overall well-being. The magic number is 10!

Current physical activity guidelines suggest that adults engage in 150-300 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise or 75 minutes of high-intensity exercise each week. The great news? It doesn't matter how long you work out in one session; what counts is simply getting up and moving throughout the day. Recent research shows that even 10–15 minutes of physical activity daily can improve heart health and metabolism.

Regular movement is essential for reducing the risk of heart disease and stroke, which disproportionately affect our community. Consistency is key: short workouts can yield significant health benefits over time. And here’s the good news: working out doesn’t have to be overwhelming. You don’t need a gym membership or a Pilates class; you can effectively exercise from the comfort of your home or even your office.

We understand that you lead busy lives, so we’re sharing practical short workouts you can do anywhere.

10 Benefits of Physical Activity

1. Better Mood - Physical activity can reduce feelings of anxiety and improve sleep. Regular movement can help ward off depression, and joining walking groups can enhance social connections.

2. Improved Brain Function - Stay sharp! Exercise supports cognitive function and helps maintain mental acuity as we age.

3. More Money in Your Wallet - Investing time in physical activity can substantially lower healthcare costs linked to chronic diseases, saving you on medical bills.

4. Lower Risk of Heart Disease and Stroke - Being active lowers your risk for these leading causes of death and can improve blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

9. Fewer Sick Days - Staying active makes you more resilient, which can lead to fewer sick days, enhancing both your personal and professional life.
